Disney musical – Geppetto and Son – at the Erie Playhouse takes a fresh look at a familiar tale!
The Erie Playhouse Youtheatre is thrilled to announce the Erie Premiere of Disney's Geppetto & Son, a new stage musical based on Disney's made for television movie "Geppetto." This captivating musical can be seen at the Playhouse Nov. 7-16.
The adventurous and heartwarming musical features unforgettable music and lyrics by Academy, Grammy and Tony Award-winning Stephen Schwartz, best known for his songs for the stage including Wicked, Godspell, and Pippin as well as his lyrics in the popular Disney films Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Prince of Egypt. The book is by Emmy award-nominated David I. Stern.
Combining the much-loved characters of the classic Disney cartoon "Pinocchio" (along with its familiar hit songs "When You Wish Upon A Star" and "Got No Strings") with the popular Drew Carey television film "Geppetto," this new take pulls a few fresh strings for the most famous puppet in the world.
Once the Blue Fairy (Ali Dickson) grants Geppetto (Dakota Holmes) his wish for a son, the new father finds his parenting skills are a bit rough. Feeling he is unwanted, Pinocchio (Ethan Craig) runs away to become a star in a traveling show. Geppetto must negotiate through a maze of adventures and comic encounters to find him.
In Disney's Geppetto & Son, the creators have kept the callous puppeteer Stromboli (Brooke Latimer), and have also invented Professor Buonragazzo (Kyle Brace), who designs made-to-order offspring, and the Ringleader (Hannah Steiner), who turns children into donkeys. Many colorful characters round out the cast of Youtheatre performers.
Disney's Geppetto & Son is under the direction of Playhouse Youtheatre/Education director, Emily Cassano. Ryan Kerr and Natalie Gnipp are handling the musical staging and Eric Smrcka the vocal direction, with Mary Rose Ferrara designing the enchanting costumes and Joe Hassler creating sets and lights.
