The Erie Playhouse Youtheatre will close the current season with a new stage musical adaptation of the popular book Anne of Green Gables.
This timeless tale, adored by generations of readers, is adapted from the classic book by Lucy Maud Montgomery. The popular story makes a return appearance to the Erie Playhouse stage after premiering in a different adaptation in 1994.
The story revolves around Anne Shirley (Hannah Jaskiewicz), a red-haired, wide-eyed orphan girl who is thrust upon the town of Avonlea. Plainspoken farmer, Matthew Cuthbert (Garrick Dickson), and his sister, Marilla (Darla Owens), expect to adopt a boy orphan but instead find Anne waiting for them at the train station. Anne, who has never had a real home, is determined to stay with the Cuthberts at Green Gables. Her genius for getting in to trouble changes her life and the lives of all those around her, including those of her bosom friend, Diana (Beth Holl), and her sometime-rival Gilbert (Zach Zalewski). The cast is rounded out by over 60 talented Youtheatre performers.
Anne of Green Gables is under the direction of Playhouse Youtheatre/education director, Emily Cassano. Marann Curtis takes on the choreographic duties with Caroline Miceli handling the vocal direction. Mary Rose Ferrara is designing the costumes with assistance from cast members’ parents, and Joe Hassler is creating sets and lights.
Anne of Green Gables – an enchanting musical about love, family and home.
