_Altar Boyz_… “a holy hit!”

Altar Boyz, the acclaimed musical comedy now in its fourth year at New World Stages and winner of the coveted Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical Off-Broadway, will hit the stage at the Erie Playhouse in June.

Full of sharp parody, spectacular dancing, and irreverent humor, this spoof about a heavenly guy-group is adored by audiences and critics alike. With a mix of side-splitting songs, uncontrollable laughs and lighthearted fun, this award-winning and totally original new musical is 90 minutes of pure delight that's suitable for all ages and will have the whole family laughing and singing along.

Hailed as "high-octane entertainment" (Talkin' Broadway), Altar Boyz tells the holy inspiring story of 5 small-town boys – Matthew (Andrew Swackhamer), Mark (Anthony Palermo), Luke (Seth Travis), Juan (Justin Williams) and Abraham (Tim Barthelmes) – a Christian boy band from Ohio who are guided by the voice of God to share the Gospel through pop music. Their pious pop act, including lyrics like "Girl You Make Me Wanna Wait" and "Jesus Called Me On My Cell Phone," worked wonders on the Ohio bingo-hall-and-pancake-breakfast circuit. But will it work when the boyz try to take it to the “big apple”?

There have been touring productions of Altar Boyz all over the United States and both national and international resident productions in Chicago, Korea, Hungary, Finland, Australia, Montreal, and the Philippines. With book by Kevin Del Aguila, music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker, Altar Boyz will lift the spirits of even the most jaded theatrgoer.

Richard Davis handles the stage direction/choreography with Katrina Foltz taking on the musical/vocal direction. Set and light design by Joe Hassler and costume design by Mary Rose Ferrara will complete the mega-entertaining production.
